Abstract
In order to obtain the toothbrush size which is appropriate for korean, 236 subjects were selected. Among them, 43 were under 6 years of age, 140 were aged 6 to 11, and 53 were over 12 years old.
Dental study models were examinned by measuring the length from labial midline of deciduous canine to distal surface of deciduous second molar, from labial midline of permanent canine to distal surface of second premolar, from mesial surface of
permanent first molar to distal surface of permanent second molar, cervico-incisal length of deciduous central incisor, cervico-incisal length of permanent central incisor, from mesiobuccal cusp of deciduous maxillary second molar to mesiolingual
cusp
of deciduous maxillary second molar, from mesiobucaal cusp of permanent maxillary first molar to mesiolingual cusp of permanent maxillary first molar, from distobuccal cusp of deciduous mandibular second molar to mesiolingual cusp of deciduous
mandibular second molar, from mesiobuccal cusp of permanent mandibular first molar to mesiolingual cusp of permanent mandibular second molar. And the width of right hand was exammed on each subjects by measuring the length of certain skin
landmarks
which were selected for this study.
And all the data were analysed by ANOVA and the head length, head width, bristle length and handle length were determined in 97% confidence ranges.
Furthermore, the authors collected ordinary commercial toothbrushes in Korea, and measured the head length, head width. Bristle length and handle length, those were compared with the results of this study.
@ES The obtained results were as follows:
@EN 1. The head length of toothbrush which is appropriate for korean was less than 20.3mm for under 6 years old age group, less than 23.7mm for 6 to 11 age group, and less than 25.5mm for over 12 years old age group.
2. The head width of toothbrush which is appropriate for Korean was less than 6.1mm for under 6 years old age group, less than 7.5mm for 6 to 11 age group, and less than 8.0mm for over 12 years old age group.
3. The bristle length of toothbrush which is appropriate for Korean was more than 5.6mm for under 6 years old age group, more than 9.6mm for 6 to 11 age group, and more than 10.1mm for over 12 years old age group.
4. The handle length of toothbrush which is appropriate for Korean was more than 63.0mm for under 6 years old age group, more than 78.4mm for 6 to 11 age group, and more than 90.3mm for over 12 years old age group.
